The Alternatives
On a per unit basis, the District's cost of service is significantly
higher than the per unit cost in larger districts and municipalities.
The District is investigating the feasibility of obtaining treatment service
from other entities. Denver's Foothills Water Treatment Plant is located
adjacent to the District. The Littleton-Englewood and Centennial Water
and Sanitation District wastewater treatment plants are located within
a reasonable distance down stream from the District's wastewater treatment
plant. Obtaining treatment service from an outside entity would provide
long-term economic and operational benefits to the District. A significant concern with respect to the potential for outside treatment
service is the timing of potential treatment agreements compared to the
District's need to expand its existing treatment facilities. Before other
arrangements for treatment can be made, the District's capital costs would
increase significantly above current estimates.
